Description
Profhilo is a clear bio-reabsorbable hyaluronic acid sterile gel that consists of stabilised non-animal based hyaluronic acid. This gel is usually injected into the skin to plump, hydrate and nourish aging skin on the face, neck, or decolatage providing contour definition and laxity remodelling. The visco-elastic and hydrating properties of the gel, combined with the maintenance of the hydration of the cutaneous tissues create a glowing appearance in the skin.

Benefits/Application

Profhilo hyaluronic acid sterile gel is injected in small drops into the deep dermis or subcutaneous junction of the skin. This plumps, hydrates and nourishes aging skin on the face, neck, or decolatage providing subtle contour definition and laxity remodelling to achieve a fresher glow to the skin. The treatment is administered over two or three consultations about a month apart. The effects of the treatment can last 6 months or more, but this period may vary in each person.

Preparation

It is important to come to the appointment with a clean face without make up. Discuss in advance if you have had an allergic reaction to any anaesthetic, including Lignocaine, or to Hyaluronic Acid. Let us know if you are taking a blood thinner or pain killers such as Asprin, Warfarin, Mobic, Neurofen etc. Plan the following day at home as you may look a bit bumpy for a day or two.

The Procedure

Prior to the procedure the skin is cleaned with alcohol. Ice can then be used to numb the skin and reduce any discomfort from the needle pricks. Small drops of the medication are then injected into the skin via a fine needle with little discomfort.

Pain and Discomfort

There is little discomfort associated with Profhilo injections. The product may sting a little but this cab be lessened with injecting small amounts, using ice, local anaesthetic cream or laughing gas as necessary.

Aftercare

Small lumps are visible on the skin post procedure. Following the treatment patients are advised to gently massage the treated areas. It takes about 2 days for the gel to settle into the skin and after the second appointment it takes about one to two weeks to see the full result of the hydrated, fresher skin.

Downtime

There is little downtime The small marks or lumps at the injection sites usually subside over 1 -2 days. A small bruise can occasionally result from the injections but this is rare. Makeup can be worn immediately.

Risks

Results vary within individuals and there is no guarantee of the result.
There are very few risks with injecting Profhilo, however there is always a very small risk of bruising, inflammation, tenderness or discolouration when injecting areas with underlying sensitive structures such as nerves and blood vessels. These temporary side effects related to the injections can occur but should resolve quickly. There have also been very isolated reports of lumps, granuloma and hypersensitivity.

Costs

It costs $800 for one syringe of Profhilo injected by the doctor, and followed by a Healite treatment to help settle the treated areas.
